Who might benefit from the program

Tending the Fire: Christian Spirituality and Prayer is a nine-month retreat program designed to explore diverse Christian traditions and prayer practices that deepen one's spiritual journey and personal faith life. Christian Spirituality encompasses many kinds of spirituality. This program is offered for those who seek spiritual formation, desire a richer prayer life, may be discerning a call to be spiritual directors, or who are already spiritual directors or prayer leaders. Examples of some prayer styles that will be engaged are:   lectio divina, contemplative prayer, journaling, the Jesus prayer, praying with icons, liturgy of the hours, the examen, and others.


Format

The format is presentation by the staff, experiencing various prayer forms, and sharing prayer in small groups.

  • Mary Giles Mailhot, OSB, MA in Religious Studies
  • Lucy Wynkoop, OSB, MA in Theology, concentration in Scripture; MA in Theology, concentration in Monastic Studies

Cost

The cost for 18 sessions, every other week on Tuesdays, is $1000.00. We require a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 participants. Please see below for how to apply. A nonrefundable deposit of $100.00 to hold your place in Tending the Fire must be received by August 11, 2006.
