Sr. Sharon McDonald, OSB

It is our joy to announce the election of Sister Sharon McDonald as our new Prioress for the next four years!

The Benedictine Sisters of St. Placid Priory, after a year of preparation, met on February 28, 2014 to begin discernment for the election of Prioress. We spent two days in prayer and discernment, and with the help of our facilitator, Sister Kathy McNany, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we reached consensus. The election then took place on March 1, 2014 in our chapel, under the direction of the President of the Federation of St. Benedict, Sister Susan Hutchens.

The months of March and April will be a time of transition; Sister Sharon will take office on Sunday, May 4, 2014.

  1. Congratulations. May God always bless you and your family for the choice of dedication to Him. Richard Holcomb MD.

  2. On Saturday, May 3rd, gravity enhanced, saturated tree leaves and limbs bowed under spring showers. By Sunday, the rain gave way to newly sprouted needles and leaves growing outward and upward toward the light, lifted by a new source.
Walking into the Priory, Rachel and I both sensed the wonder of nature and thought of the wonderful metaphor-, spring rain, and how this represented Sister Sharon and her new responsibilities as Prioress.
At her reception, she was radiant and true to her spirit by laughing and being so inclusive of everyone present. The weight of trust- of responsibility, had been internalized as did all the moisture of the previous day into the plants lifted by a new source, the power of growth, the power of love.
This was a joyful day. A day we shall always remember.
For it was the day of Sister Sharon and her Trees!

With Admiration and love always, Grey Brogdon

  3. What a wonderful opportunity to continue God’s work in a new capacity as Prioress. Your strengths and abilities will undoubtedly lend themselves to promoting growth and supporting the faith community. Proverbs 3:5-6

Our family sends our prayers and ask God’s Blessings upon you. Janice & Stephen

    after the rain
    soggy daffodills
